The Decatur is a 3,400-square-foot, multi-level, contemporary loft space in the Manchester Industrial Historic District in Richmond, Virginia. Our client, a real estate developer with excellent taste, wanted to create a work / live space close to downtown for he and his family to enjoy.

After seeing the space, our goal quickly became twofold: celebrate its vertical nature and create zones within. The main living area on the top floor was wide open, punctuated only by a custom three-sided fireplace to separate the living and dining areas. The middle floor, which contained the bedrooms and home office, was divided using custom walnut and acrylic pocket shoji doors. The doors open to an interior common area with a meditation fountain that greeted those who entered from the bottom floor.

The Decatur has been featured in Southern Living, Dream Lofts & Condos, R-Home Magazine, and Richmond Times-Dispatch.
